My prayers and condolences to all that will miss his earthly presence. He personally said to me "I enjoy filling in at Holy Ghost church. They are warm hearted and I enjoy the singing at masses during the week as well as Sundays." I'm sorry I could not attend his services.

Monsignor Melancon was a friend of the Metrejean family for so many years-even before his ordination into the Priesthood. "Louie" as he was so fondly called was a blessing to all of us. He will be missed-but we know that he is in a much better place. He has earned his wings and is now with our Loving Father in Heaven. Sincerest condolences to all whose lives lovingly he touched!
Rest in peace, Louie!

Msgr. Melancon was such a kind and gentle priest. He took time to visit with all parishioners. He talked to the young children and made them so happy. He listened to the teens and gently guided them. He made sure they were blessed before going to retreats, ball games and conferences. He cooed over babies and congratulated young parents. He visited the elderly and often did Mass at the nursing homes and Cest la Vie the independent living apartments in Opelousas. He helped encourage my mother during my father's last days on earth and gave us all great comfort at his funeral. He was loved by all for his kind and gentle way. He will be missed.

A big loss for all catholics in Opelousas I would imagine right
now he is being shown around heaven by some of his former
priest friends who went before him
