Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Velta Dupre Bajat on Monday, October 1, 2018, at 10:00 AM at St Landry Catholic Church. Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Bajat, age 83, a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Velta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell for 35 years until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and going to the local casinos with her dear friends as well as having dinner with them. She enjoyed being outdoors gardening and planting new flowers. Velta will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Keith Pitre and wife, Michelle; her daughter, Desiree Pitre Robison and husband, Joe; her brother, Francis "Boy" Dupre' and her sisters, Verbie Boudreaux and Patsy Frame. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Erin Robison Coney (Brad), Matthew Robison, Stacy Robison Cranford (Chad), Hannah Elizabeth Pitre, Jacob Bryant Pitre and five great-grandchildren, Bennett Michael Coney, Mason Alexander Coney, Charlotte Elise Coney, Chad David Cranford, II and Landry Camille Cranford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Antoine "Toe" Bajat, Jr.; her parents, Louis and Nelwyn Fontenot Dupre; her sisters, Barbara Bourgeois, Gloria Dupre and her granddaughter, Caroline Reese Cranford.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will reopen on Monday, October 1, 2018, at 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening at 6:30 PM by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
