Terry Wayne Mayeux   I am a Veteran.
November 4, 1936  -  September 27, 2017

Terry Wayne Mayeux, a resident of Opelousas, LA, passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family on September 27, 2017 at the age of 80. Visitation will be observed at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on September 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA with the Very Rev. Msgr. Keith DeRouen officiating, and with co-celebrant Rev. Angelo Cremaldi.

Terry grew up in Reddell, LA, attended Vidrine High School and SLI college, Lafayette, LA, graduating in Geology and Math. He worked briefly as a geologist, and then worked at Louisiana Social Services Department in Opelousas and Lafayette until his retirement. He served in the Army and was recalled during the Cuban Crisis while stationed at Ft. Sill, Ok.

Some of his proudest accomplishments include achieving the Eagle Scout rank, attending Philmont Scout Camp, and later volunteering as the Scout Master for Troop 165 in Opelousas. He was a devout Christian, attending Cursillo in his youth under the direction of Father Fidelis, serving as president on the Queen of Angels church parish council, and as a Lector for over 50 years. He was quick to help those in need, including regular hair cuts for elderly friends and neighbors, while enjoying their company.

Terry was an avid tennis player, enjoying it weekly until his illness. He was skilled at woodwork, carving, building, and was a handyman who could fix almost anything. He was a kid at heart, playful, and always had a good joke or story to tell.

He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by his family, whom he devoted his whole life serving. He is preceded in death by his parents' J.J. Mayeux and Lilly Guillory of Reddell, LA, his son Peter J. Mayeux, and grandchildren Andrew P. Mayeux (son of Peter and Sandy) and Michael B. Mayeux (son of Paul and Ruby).

Terry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Nell Chauffe of Breaux Bridge, and their children: Phillip Mayeux and wife Debbie Moore of Kountze, TX, Paul Mayeux and wife Ruby Smith of Orange, TX, Carmen McFaul and husband Keith McFaul of Oak Harbor, WA, Patrick Mayeux of Cambridge, MA, Eric Mayeux and wife Rachel Millett of Youngsville, LA, Marie Cook and husband Clint Cook of Plano, TX, Megan Cryer Mayeux of Hartman, AR. He has 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Wilda M. Chapman, of Scott, LA, and one brother, Stacey Mayeux, of Reddell, LA.

The family expresses its deep gratitude and sincere thanks to all his caregivers during his illness, especially Lafayette General Oncology Group, First Option Home Health, Heart of Hospice for his end of life care, and Dr. Gary Blanchard, his internist.
