Palmetto - A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. for Richard Charles at Palmetto United Methodist Church (201 Taylor St., Palmetto, Louisiana 71358).

Mr. Charles, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his residence in Palmetto, LA.

Richard honorably served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He became a military policeman and served time in Korea. After returning home from the war, he became a drill sergeant in the Army Reserves. He was a member of Council on Aging and was their chairman for many years. Richard enjoyed taking care of ducks, chewing on cigars and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his companion of 28 years, Diana Whipple; his sons, Christopher Charles (Stephanie), Patrick Charles and his sisters, Janet Anglin (Kenneth) and Catherine Davis.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Emelda Charles and his brother, Gregory Charles.

    We will miss Richard very much. He was one of Barry's oldest and dearest friends. They spoke almost every day and Richard and I discussed sales of groceries. WILL miss him
