Opelousas -Funeral services for James Gerald Bernard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel of Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the services.

James Gerald Bernard, age 83, was born on September 30, 1935, and left this life on February 11, 2019. James (known as "Jerry" or "Jim" to many) was an Army Korean War Veteran. James loved playing his trumpet, loved to have a good time fishing, hunting and dancing.

James is survived by his three remaining children, two daughters, Sandra and husband, Thomas Raymond; and Yvonne and husband, Jack McHone; son, James Kenneth Bernard and wife, Anna; and his sister, Rae Ortego. James had seven grandchildren: Michelle Bernard, Bridget Raymond Caletka, Marie Bernard, Michael McHone, Benjamin Raymond, Katie McHone, and James Bernard II. He had five great grandchildren: Chad, Brianna, Andrew Jackson "AJ", Abigail, and his most recent Efren.

James was preceded in death by his son, Michael Bernard; mother, Albert Grace Carroll Bernard; father, Adolph Bernard; sister, Yvonne Sivley; and brother, Charles Bernard.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Raymond, Jack McHone, Benjamin Raymond, Michael McHone, Lee Caletka, and Chad Dean.
