Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Gayle Hidalgo Fontenot will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 12:30 until 1:30 PM. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM by the Our Lady of Mercy Rosary Group prior to Mass. Readers will be Michael Smith and Carol Mueller and the gift bearers will be her great-grandchildren. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.
Mrs. Fontenot, age 83, died on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for many years. She enjoyed baking, volunteering for church, gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren and playing weekly card games with her friends. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Raphael Fontenot, of Opelousas, LA; her daughter, Dianne Fontenot Womack and husband, Ralph, of Opelousas, LA; her sons, Bryan K. Fontenot and wife, Joni, of Lafayette, LA; David B. Fontenot of Lafayette, LA and her brother, Ray Hidalgo and wife, Peggy, of Opelousas, LA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mallory Womack Fitzsimmons and husband, Dan, of Dallas, TX; Sydni Womack Smith and husband, Michael, of Lafayette, LA; Corgan Womack of Opelousas, LA; Andre Fontenot of Lafayette, LA; Sophie Fontenot of Lafayette, LA and Grant Fontenot of Lafayette, LA and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milien and Felix Hidalgo; her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Fontenot; her brothers, Gerald Hidalgo and wife, Earline; Harold Hidalgo and Lynwood Hidalgo.
Pallbearers will be Corgan Womack, Grant Fontenot, Andre Fontenot, Michael Smith, Dan Fitzsimmons and Lesley Fontenot.
