Opelousas - Funeral services for Aaron Joseph Savoy will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018, in Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. Reverend Ted Broussard will conduct the service. Interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Mr. Savoy, age 69, a longtime resident of Opelousas, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Opelousas General Health System.
Aaron was an educator for 35 years. He started his teaching career at Leonville High School and was there for 12 years. He then retired after teaching 23 years at Lawtell High School/Northwest High School. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell. Aaron was an avid hunter in Louisiana and Canada and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Most of all, he enjoyed giving his time for community service in the Lawtell and Opelousas areas.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ida Kathryn "Kathy" Savoy; his sons, Mark Savoy & wife, Terri and Chad Savoy; his sisters, Thelma Leger and Mary Ann Andrepont and husband, Wayne; two grandchildren, Elise Savoy and Emma Savoy; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Savoy and Alice Venable Savoy and his siblings, Wilma, Roma, Pearl, Sandy and Ray.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, April 5, 2018, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Friday, April 6, 2018, visitation will continue from 8:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.
A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM by Reverend Austin Leger.
