Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Alton Ray Barron on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, La.  The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will conduct the Mass.  Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, La.

Ray, age 80, was born in Port Barre, La. and was a resident of Opelousas, La.  He passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Carpenter House in Lafayette, La.

Ray served his country proudly and was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked as a truckdriver for many years.  He was very musically talented and enjoyed playing his accordion for family and friends.  He loved listening to French music and watching football.  Alton was a very loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Savoie Barron; his daughter, Vicki Barron Richard and husband, Steve; his brother, John Alvin Barron and wife, Ann; his sisters, Audrey Barron Lanclos and husband, Ronald, Mildred Barron Morgan and husband, Ricky and Eva Barron LaBorde and husband, Burnell.  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ethan Ray Barron, Miranda May Burruss and Nicholas Alton Richard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Barron, Sr. and Amy Jannise Barron; his son, Mitchell Ray Barron, his brother, Dallas Barron, Jr. and his sister, Emma Jean Barron Leger.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Barron, John Barron, Ronald Lanclos, Ricky Morgan, Blake Castille and Jason Castille.  Honorary pallbearers will be David Guidroz and Nicholas Richard.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 13, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.   Visitation will continue Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made to the family in Ray’s name.
