Melville-A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Katie Angona Graffia., age 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in the St. John Catholic Church followed by interment in the Church Cemetery in Melville, La. The James Nguyen will officiate the services.

Mrs. Graffia a resident of Melville, La., died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 7:35 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System after a short illness

She was a great mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosie Marie Montgomery and husband, Lamar, of Harahan, La.; Shirley Graffia and Mary Lee Graffia both of Melville, La.; daughter-in-law, Betty Graffia of St. Bernard, La.; her sister, Lena Brocato of Melville, La. and her brother, Joseph Ancona of Metairie, La. She was also survived by 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 step-grandchild; 3 step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Tony Graffia; her parents, Tony and Rosa Angona; her son, Lt. Col. Joseph Graffia; an infant daughter, Margaret Graffia; her brothers, Victor Ancona; Carlo Ancona and her sister, Elizabeth Traina.

Visiting hours will be held in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville, La. starting on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, until service time. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
