Charles “Charlie” Edward McKinney passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 102. He was born on September 11, 1924, and lived a long life marked by devotion to the people and pastimes he loved most.

Charlie was a proud World War II Army Air Force veteran, and that service remained an important part of his life and legacy. He was known for the enjoyment he found in time spent with others and in the activities that brought him happiness over the years.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Indian Hills Country Club in Opelousas. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, where he especially loved playing cards (and counting them) with a sharp and playful mind. Before his wife, Madelyn, passed away, Charlie and Madelyn loved dancing, going out to dinner together, and traveling to golf tournaments. They shared an amazing marriage, and he loved her dearly.

Above all, Charlie treasured his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in particular, meant the world to him, and the love he held for them was a defining part of his life.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Vivian Lynn McKinney Gallet, of Carencro; his brother, Herbert “T-herb” Walker and his wife, Sondra of Opelousas; his grandchildren, Lauren Boullion and her husband, Nick of Carencro, and Oliver and his partner who live in rural Tennessee; his great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kodey, Connor and Kaydance all of Carencro; and a host a beloved cousins and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Madelyn McKinney; his mother and step-father, Robert and Elva Walters Walker; his sister, Vivian Landry; his step-brother, R.P. Walker; and his step-sister, Vera Ruth Gilmore.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Acadiana, especially Collen and Kim, and his caregiver Samantha Lloyd, for the amazing care they provided.

Charles “Charlie” Edward McKinney will be remembered with affection, gratitude, and respect by all who knew and loved him. His long life, loving marriage, faithful service, and deep devotion to family leave a lasting memory.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
