Charles Wayne Richard

September 30, 1947 — November 4, 2023

Charles Wayne Richard, a beloved member of the Opelousas community, passed away on November 4, 2023. Born on September 30, 1947, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Charles was a man with a huge heart and a deep sense of faith. He dedicated hours of his life to praying for the sick and was known for being a devout Catholic. Charles found solace in making rosaries and would prayerfully engage in this practice several times throughout the day. He was a parishioner and usher for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for many years.

After graduating high school, Charles began his career as a grocery produce clerk, which he took great pride in doing for over 60 years. Working at several grocery stores, he retired from Walmart.

Beyond his spiritual devotion, Charles enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He had an affinity for food, particularly sweets. Additionally, he relished the thrill of visiting the casino, where he would test his luck with enthusiasm. Above all else, Charles cherished spending time with his family and friends. The bonds he formed were strong and lasting.

Charles is survived by his son, Michael Richard, of Opelousas; daughter, Jennifer Richard, of Opelousas; his brother, Joseph Carroll Richard and his wife, Marjorie, of Ville Platte; his sister, Susan Richard Guidry and her husband, Glenn, of Opelousas.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Fontenot Richard; his parents, Joseph Merrick Richard and Eula Guidroz Richard; as well as his brother, Paul Craig Richard.
