Cynthia Marie Chachere Fontenot, passed away peacefully at her residence in Opelousas, Louisiana, on September 5, 2024, at the age of 63. She was born on May 31, 1961, in Church Point, Louisiana, Cynthia was a vibrant spirit who brought joy to all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Cynthia will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Father Taj Glodd will celebrate the Mass. The Rite of Committal and burial will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Cody Fontenot, Billy Fontenot, David Chachere, Justin Chachere and Kevin Chachere.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas with a Rosary service being prayed that evening at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Cynthia spent 21 years working at the Lewisburg Water System and 14 years with St. Landry Lumber, where she was known for her hard work and dedication. Her co-workers will remember her not only for her commitment but also for the warmth and friendliness she shared daily.
Outside of work, Cynthia cherished the moments spent with her friends and family. She loved being outdoors, enjoying yard work, and spending time at the beach. A passionate lover of life, she found joy in dancing and creating beautiful memories with those she loved most. One of her proudest accomplishments included barrel racing with her horse, an activity that brought her immense joy.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 33 years, Charles B. Fontenot, of Ville Platte, Louisiana; her mother, Verna Jane Fontenot, of Lawtell, Louisiana; her sons, Billy Fontenot of Lewisburg, Louisiana, and Cody Fontenot; her daughter, Kristy Fontenot of Opelousas, Louisiana; her brother, David Chachere of Carencro, Louisiana; her sister, Theresa Elaine Tweedel of Lewisburg, Louisiana; and her cherished grandchildren, Silas Delahoussaye and Piper Delahoussaye, of Opelousas, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Roy Chachere; her brother, Greg Chachere; and her maternal grandparents, Gilbert D. Carrol and Noelie Marie Pitre, as well as her paternal grandparents, Rodney and Lucille Franchbois Chachere.
Cynthia's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
