Troy Stelly lived a full and meaningful life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. Born on October 14, 1971, Dalton was a dedicated husband, loving father, and a pillar of his community. He worked 27 years at Lafayette Consolidated Government, demonstrating unwavering commitment and an unmatched work ethic. 

Troy passed away on September 18, 2023, leaving a void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember his infectious laughter, his unwavering love for others, and the impact he had on our lives. Troy’s legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.

Though his professional accomplishments were noteworthy, it was Troy's love for his wife, Vickie, and their children that truly defined him. His devotion to his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every precious moment spent with them. In the eyes of those who knew him, Troy was a very special person—people fell in love with him wherever he went.

Troy was not only a dedicated family man but also a devout member of the First Baptist Church in Port Barre. He actively participated in various church activities, including serving in the church choir and holding multiple positions within the congregation. His faith was paramount to him, providing strength and solace even during the darkest times.

In addition to his many responsibilities, Troy found solace in pursuing various hobbies and interests. He enjoyed hunting amidst nature's beauty, fishing on quiet serene lakes, tending to his garden, and honing his culinary skills. Music held a special place in his heart, serving as a source of inspiration and relaxation. Above all else, he reveled in the simple joy of being surrounded by his beloved family. A devoted football fan, Troy’s love for the game knew no bounds—he was an ardent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys.

Throughout his life journey, Troy faced challenges with unwavering determination and unwavering faith. Even when confronted with adversity, he never faltered; instead, he emerged stronger than ever before. His unwavering light shone brightest during the darkest hours, inspiring all those fortunate enough to witness his remarkable strength.

Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Port Barre on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service honoring Troy’s life in the First Baptist Church in Port Barre at 1:00 PM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together and share their fondest memories of Troy. A burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Port Barre. 

Troy is survived by his beloved wife Vickie Stelly, whose devotion matched his own; loving parents, Curley and Waneita Stelly; cherished children, Brett, Lucas, Lainey, Alyssa, Emma, and Sophie; his brother, Tony Stelly and wife, Debbie and their children, Gabby and Ben; mother-in-law, Marie Guillory; his sisters-in-law and their families, Gail and Dane Thibodeaux and their children, Reed, Avery, Eli, and Ellie; Verdie Guillory and her children, Haley and Kayla; as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emma and Easton Stelly; his maternal grandparents, Dalton and Katie Carter; his step-grandmother, Barbara Carter; his Aunt Jane McGlone and especially all of the babies that he and wife lost.

Those honored to be Troy’s pallbearers are Brett Stelly, Tony Stelly, Benjamin Stelly, Dane Thibodeaux, Craig Stelly, and Steve Traylor. Lucas Stelly and Shane Stelly will be honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mary Bird Perkins for their compassion and amazing care during Troy’s journey.  We would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana and the Calcutta House for the care, facility, and staff.

Troy was also blessed with a work family that looked out for him and cared for him while working.  We are very grateful God gave him friends and not just family.

In the embrace of our collective grief and love for Troy, let us find solace knowing that he will forever remain in our hearts. His spirit will guide us through difficult times and serve as a constant reminder to cherish our loved ones while celebrating the journey of life. May his soul find eternal peace in the presence of God.
