Obituary

Debbie Woodson Marks, age 75, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Born on November 8, 1950, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Debbie lived a life marked by love, faith, and dedication to those around her.

A memorial service for Debbie Marks will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. The service will be officiated by Deacon Timothy Donovan. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m.

Debbie was a gifted florist whose passion for flowers blossomed over more than 30 years. She devoted 13 years to Durio's Florist and 26 years to Wanda's Florist, where her artistic touch and care were appreciated by many. Her work reflected her nurturing spirit and creativity, qualities that extended warmly into her personal life.

Debbie found joy in quieter pursuits, often engaging in her “Search A-Word” puzzle books and staying connected with friends and family through Facebook.

A life-long parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church, Debbie was a deeply devout Catholic who found peace and strength in her faith. She faithfully prayed her rosary every day.

Family was the cornerstone of Debbie's life. She was a very loving person who treasured every moment spent with her family. Alongside her husband, James “Jimmy” Marks, she shared a passion for RV camping, often enjoying joyous excursions with their dogs T-Boy, Max, Jackson, and Bentley. These adventures highlighted her love of nature and the simple pleasures of life.

Debbie’s legacy lives on through her son, James Blake Marks and his wife, Stacey, of Opelousas, LA; her daughter, Melissa Marks Lee and husband, Greg, of Ville Platte, LA; and her godchildren, Todd Godeaux and Christy Bridges. She is also survived by her sister, Loretta Woodson Godeaux, and husband, Adam, of Port Barre, LA. Debbie was a proud grandmother to Logan Marks, Chloe Marks, Dylan Lee and his wife, Kelsey, and Macie Lee Manuel and her husband, Garrett. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren, Harper Lee, Lucas Manuel, and Cullen Manuel. She will be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who carry forward her warmth and kindness.

Debbie was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Marks and her parents, John Pete Woodson and Lena Richard.

Debbie Woodson Marks will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her loving presence, steadfast faith, and generous spirit. Her life was a testament to devotion—both to her family and her faith—and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth and grace that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
