Delma Ruth Courtney Brown, age 96, was born on November 30, 1929, in Ida, Louisiana, and peacefully passed away on June 5, 2026, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, Louisiana. Throughout her life, she was known for her dedication to family.

Graveside services for Delma Ruth Courtney Brown will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Munnerlyn Chapel Cemetery,17081 Atlanta Mira Road, in Ida, Louisiana 71044. Pastor Brett Puckett will officiate the services.

Delma’s early professional years were marked by her work as an operator for Southwestern Bell, where she gained one year of valuable experience. She then devoted five years as a loan officer for Planters Bank, demonstrating her integrity and commitment to helping others achieve their financial goals.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelousas. Delma cherished spending time surrounded by her family and was particularly passionate about cooking, sharing meals that brought everyone together. Among her many culinary talents, she was especially admired for her homemade cornbread dressing, a recipe that became a beloved tradition in family gatherings.

Delma’s love for the outdoors was evident in the many hours she spent tending to her yard. She took personal pleasure in cutting her own grass. She was very knowledgeable about specific species of trees. In her spare time, she was an avid reader.

She is survived by her son, Robert Michael Munnerlyn and his wife, Stella of Port Barre, Louisiana. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Niki Artigue and her husband, Patrick; Jeremy Munnerlyn and his wife, Kasey; Ryan Munnerlyn and his wife, Ariel; along with ten cherished great-grandchildren; her stepdaughter, Elaine Brown-Black of South Carolina; and three step grandsons, Bart Brown, Blake Brown, and Dwight Brown.

Delma was preceded in death by her parents, Jenness Doniphan Courtney and Lavonia Sams Courtney; her daughter, Patricia Ann Munnerlyn; her first husband, Vernon P. Munnerlyn; her second husband, J.R. Brown, Jr.; her brothers, Jim Courtney, Donald Courtney, and Jenness Doniphan Courtney, Jr.; her sisters, Faye Feducia, Bobbie McDoniel, Mary Courtney, and Ina “Tootsie” Joyce Craig; and her stepson, Dr. Randy Brown and his wife, Loyce Brown; and step son-in-law, Colin Black.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Munnerlyn, Ryan Munnerlyn, Patrick Artigue, Ethan LeBlanc, Dylan LeBlanc, Landon LeBlanc, Jen Courtney, and Justin Courtney. Honorary pallbearers will be Easton Munnerlyn and Liam Munnerlyn.

The legacy of Delma Ruth Courtney Brown is one of kindness, devotion, and a deep love for family and community. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will be remembered with great respect and affection.
