Opelousas -Funeral services will be held for Dorothy Mary Baque Soileau, known to many as "Dot" at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, LA. Rite of Committal will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park. Msgr. Russell Harrington will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.
Dorothy Baque Soileau was born to the former Louise Miller and Emick Baque on February 17, 1922. She passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Courtyard Manor Assisted Living Home in Lafayette at the age of 98.
She had a long and distinguished career in the insurance industry working for GAB where she began as a secretary and due to her hard work and dedication became the first female claims adjuster and then the first female claims manager. She retired as the marketing supervisor for three states at 68 years old. She met and became good friends with women she met through the insurance industry and at conventions of the National Association of Insurance Women. Friendships that she maintained throughout her life.
Dot enjoyed taking photographs, writing short stories about her travels, and reading books. She would gather with her friends to play Bourre' and Bingo. She especially loved her time spent with family and friends. She was a loving mother, and a caring sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her.
She is survived by four sons, Billy Soileau of Baton Rouge; Lenny Soileau of Baker; Dickie Soileau and wife, Paula of Lafayette; and Robbie Soileau of St. Augustine, FL; one daughter, Maria Fox of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Ann Baque of Phoenix, AZ; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Miller Baque Roberts; her father, Emick Baque; and one brother, Alvin John Baque.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in memory of Mrs. Dorothy to the Opelousas Area Cerebral Palsy Clinic, 841 E Bellevue St, Opelousas, LA 70570.
