Duane "Poppy" Clayton Bemrose, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 8, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on March 30, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, Poppy had a warm heart that touched everyone around him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Melville from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brian Johnston officiating.
Poppy’s military service as a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps was a significant aspect of his life, reflecting his dedication and commitment to serving his country. He loved his own children dearly, and his nurturing nature extended beyond his family as he cared for many other children.
Poppy enjoyed listening to all kinds of music. Alongside his love for music, he had a flair for cooking and a talent for writing poetry, hobbies that brought him immense satisfaction and allowed him to share his creativity with those he loved.
Poppy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lucy Bemrose, of Melville, Louisiana, and his children: his son, Duane Bemrose, II, of Melville, Louisiana; his daughters, Priscilla Francis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bambi Mahoney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His legacy will continue through his grandchildren, Amber Jessica, Nathan, Eric, Ashley, and another beloved grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Milo Claire Bemrose and Elizabeth Katherine Wiley Bemrose; as well as his brothers, David Bemrose and his wife, Sharon and their child, David, Jr. and Dennis Bemrose; and his sister, Palma Neal.
Poppy's presence and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the love he shared and the lives he touched.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, especially, Ms. Donnie; the staff of the Golden Rule Care Providers, especially, Ms. Mary Morain and the staff of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
