Edval Jannise, Jr., a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette Louisiana. He was born on December 3, 1954, in Beaumont, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edval Jannise, Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. Father Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Ned, Brian Smith, Robert Fontenot, Mayonce Frank, Glenn Tagalo and Jariel Inggo.

Visitation will begin on Friday, October 17, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A second Rosary will be recited on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. by a family friend, Justina Capanay.

Edval worked as a social worker for the state of Louisiana, a role that had an impact on the countless individuals his community. Beyond his career, he had a love for music, often seen playing guitar and singing and listening to the melodies of John Denver. He enjoyed watching old television series and had a particular passion for football, as a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints. Edval took great pride in his accomplishments, especially his journey in martial arts. He belonged to Gary Soileau's Tae-Kwon-Do Plus where he was also an instructor and mentor for 30 years, and earned his 3rd degree black belt, reflecting both his dedication and resilience. He also loved traveling to the Philippines spending time with his friends and in-laws. He also was a devoted parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Mercidita R. Jannise, with whom he shared 24 wonderful years of marriage. Edval is also survived by his adopted sister, Jan Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Manuel Jr., Rey, Andy, and Noel; his sisters-in-law, Resa and Lovely Jane; his nieces in the Philippines, Summer, Jayden, Nikka Jane, Charize Christine and Trisha May, and his nephews in the Philippines, Joseph, Kent, Christian, and Sean; his cherished Godchild, Christy Boudreaux; many aunts and uncles in the Philippines, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and his fur baby “Kookie”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edval Jannise, Sr. and Theresa Doucet Jannise; his father and mother-in-law, Manuel and Natividad Requiso; his brothers, James "JR" Jannise and Harry "Hughes" Jannise; his sister, Mary Hazel Jannise Russell and his loving dog, Nikka.

Edval will be remembered for his kindness, passion for life, and the warmth he brought to everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on through the memories cherished by his family and Filipino Friends here and in the Philippines and also fellow retired workers in the office of family support.
