Elizabeth Anne "Libbye" Crump, born on September 6, 1935, in Opelousas, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025. She most recently resided in LaPlace, Louisiana.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Father Clint Trahan will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.
Visiting hours will be observed on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.
Libbye was affectionately known as "Everybody's Sweetheart”. She was beautiful both inside and out and had an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. She was a devoted mother and was known for creating unique relationships with each of her family members and friends, making each person feel special and valued. Her unwavering support was demonstrated time and time again; if anyone in the family fell ill, she was there by their side, offering care and comfort until they recovered.
Libbye was a woman of many talents. She had a passion for crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces that will forever be treasured by her family. Known for her culinary skills, she was regarded as a world-class cook, preparing meals that brought people together and made every occasion feel festive. Her devotion to her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her.
Libbye preceded in death by her husband, Bob Crump and her daughter, Judy Pennington. She was the beloved daughter of Joe and Louise Lavergne and the cherished sibling of Mimi, Lil, Rosie, LJ, Carrol, Bernard, Kenny and Gene.
She is survived by her beloved children: Karen Hanson, Connie Chachere, John C. Sonnier, Jr., and Scott Sonnier. Libbye took great pride in her role as a grandmother. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristopher Hanson (Christie), Katie Smith, Dawn Johnson, Dustin Johnson (Ashley), John Sonnier III (Morgan), and Hudson Sonnier, along with her wonderful great-grandchildren: Trevor Scott Smith, Kristopher Blake Hanson, Gracie Lizabeth Hanson, Khloe Beth Smith, Ivy Caroline Johnson, and Libbye Belle Sonnier; and her former husband, John Conrad Sonnier, Sr.
Libbye's life was marked by love, resilience, and deep dedication to her family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.
