Opelousas - Funeral services will be held for Mr. Ellis Simon Fontenot at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the service. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed on 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. Ellis Simon Fontenot, age 85, on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Opelousas General Health System. Mr. Ellis was an Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country. He was a High School and College Basketball Referee for 51 years traveling to nearby cities and states. He was a pilot for many years where he flew his private plane as a hobby. He worked for the Department of Transportation and Development for many years as a Surveyor. After his retirement from DOTD, he began working at H & S Construction Company as a surveyor. Then, he decided to do contract work as a Land Surveyor for the past few years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Donald "Don" Fontenot and wife, Millie Fontenot of Grand Prairie; his sister, Lola Mae Fontenot Webb of Lafayette; his grandson, Dustin Keith Fontenot and wife, Lacey Duplechain Fontenot of Washington; and his two great-granddaughters, Kaitlynn Fontenot of Grand Prairie; and Sophia Fontenot of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Brown Fontenot; brother, Jimmy Roy Fontenot; sister, Lola Pearl Fontenot Richard; and his parents, Lester Simon Fontenot and Theresa Chapman Fontenot.
