He was born in Opelousas on November 23, 1942.  Sonny led a fulfilling life as the proud owner of The Oaks Lounge Bar and Motel. His father built the club and adjoining apartments on September 13, 1957, creating a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike to gather and create lasting memories.

Apart from his successful career, Sonny also dedicated himself to serving his country as a member of the National Guard Reserves.

His magnetic personality drew people to him effortlessly. He had a passion for western movies and took great pleasure in listening to 50's and 60's music as well as Christmas tunes. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. Known as the life of the party, Eugene's infectious smile could light up any room he entered.

In mourning his loss are his children, Andrew Lafleur of Palmetto, LA., Timothy Lafleur (Denise) of Opelousas, LA., Karen Jenkins of Ocean Springs, MS., Susan Ledoux (James) of Opelousas, LA., and Nancy Marks (Dwanna) of Scott, LA. Sonny also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will forever cherish the memories created with their beloved grandfather.  In addition to his family members mentioned above, Sonny is also survived by his honorary brother, Floyd Lebleu and his wife, Priscilla.

He was preceded in death by wife, Evelyn Bertinot Lafleur; his parents, Colver and Mildred Lafleur; daughter, Kathleen Lafleur and his sister, Joyce Prejean.

The family would love to thank Hospice of Acadiana and the staff of the Calcutta House for the care they gave Mr. Sonny.

Sonny will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, warmth, and zest for life will remain etched in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace knowing that he was truly loved and admired by many.
