Frances Kretschmer

February 1, 1927 — February 3, 2018

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial for Frances "Teet" Mingus Kretschmer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Father Jim Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Opelousas.

Teet died on February 3, 2018, in Denton, Texas after a brief illness. She was born on February 1, 1927, in Fort Worth, Texas, the second of six children. They grew up on the island of Aruba and were a life-long, very close knit family.

She married Dr. Theodore "Ted" Kretschmer in 1949 and together they had four children. After Thad was born in Aruba, the Kretschmers moved to Chicago where Tony, Jenny, and Andy were born. In 1957, the family moved to Louisiana and spent many happy years in Opelousas. After Ted died in 1969, Teet went back to school and became an R. N. She also later got a degree in education and was a teacher. At the time of her death, she was living in Argyle, Texas, with her daughter, Jenny and Jenny's husband, Mike Connole.

Teet loved to travel and meet new people. She spoke Spanish. She was an avid reader and never stopped learning. She was beloved by her family and friends. A true woman of substance possessed of generosity, faith, style, and the best damn laugh on the planet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis Simpson Mingus and Nell Barnes Mingus; her husband, Theodore Edward "Ted" Kretschmer, M. D.; her son, George Anthony "Tony" Kretschmer; and two sisters, Jean Ann Mingus Byrd and Sunny Mingus Axelsen.

She is survived by her children, Theodore Edward "Thad" Kretschmer, M. D. and wife, Cindy of Washington, LA; Jean Ann "Jenny" Kretschmer Connole and husband, Mike of Argyle, Texas; and Andrew Patrick "Andy" Kretschmer, M. D. and wife, Nancy of Shenandoah, Texas; one brother, Lad Mingus of Lakehills, Texas; two sisters, Sue Cone of Massachusetts; and Polly Eriksen and husband, Erik of Bullard, Texas; 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.
