Obituary

Frank Phillip Trosclair, Jr., age 83, a distinguished attorney and dedicated community leader, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, May 22, 2026. Born on September 30, 1942, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Frank’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to the practice of law, public service, and the betterment of his community.

Funeral services for Frank Trosclair, Jr. will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA. Reverend Benny Reppond with conduct the funeral service.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Frank was a graduate of Opelousas High School. He further pursued his education by earning his law degree from LSU Law School in 1967. His legal career was both extensive and impactful. He commenced his practice working alongside Mr. Earl Taylor, forming a successful partnership that lasted over 50 years under the firm Taylor and Trosclair. Later, he partnered with Charles Cravins in the firm of Cravins Trosclair. Throughout his career, Frank served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana and subsequently as the First Assistant District Attorney. Additionally, he lent his expertise as the legal advisor to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Howard Zerangue, and he was instrumental in providing legal training to various local and state law enforcement agencies early in his career. In the words of his law partner, Earl Taylor, “Frank in his own quiet way, was a brilliant lawyer”.

Beyond his professional achievements, Frank was deeply invested in his community. He held leadership positions as President of both the Elks Lodge Organization and the St. Landry Parish Bar Association, reflecting his dedication to service and civic engagement. These roles were among his proudest accomplishments, showcasing his commitment to fostering strong community bonds and upholding the values of integrity, honesty, ethics, and leadership.

Frank is survived by his son, Frank P. Trosclair III of Opelousas, LA; his stepdaughters, Dawn Voss-McReynolds of Kansas City, Missouri; Mary Voss Miller of Opelousas, LA; and Tammy Voss Watkins of Opelousas, LA. He was a grandfather to Brittany Trosclair, Emily Trosclair, Haley Stanford and her husband, Devin Tolbert, and Brooke Joyce and five great-grandchildren: Aidan Shaw Harden, Landon Chase Guidroz, Honour Hawk Lee Glittler, Lynli Gaia Wren Glittler, and Oliver Tolbert. Frank also shared a special bond with his step-granddaughter, Amy Fontenot, who provided him with great comfort. He is also survived by 16 step-grandchildren, 35 step-great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-great grandchildren.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Phillip Trosclair, Sr. and Maysie Kerr Trosclair; his wife of 45 years, Darlene Crites Trosclair; his sister, Hazel T. LeJeune; his grandchild, Lindsy Marie Trosclair; his step-sons, John H. Voss IV, Lyle Voss, and Randall “Randy” Voss; his three sons-in-law; and his wife’s parents, Lyle C. Crites and Mabel Hauck Crites.

Throughout his life, Frank Phillip Trosclair, Jr. exemplified the qualities of dedication, wisdom, and kindness. His enduring legacy as a legal professional and community leader leaves a lasting imprint on those who knew him and served alongside him. He will be remembered with respect and admiration for his immense contributions and the quiet strength with which he approached every challenge.
