Opelousas

Opelousas – Funeral services for Frederick “Fred Paul” DeJean will be held for at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.  Pastor Grover Bubba Warren will conduct the service.  Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick “Fred Paul” DeJean, age 76, on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Encompass Health Rehabilitation in Alexandria, La.

Fred taught Industrial Arts at Opelousas High School from 1970 to 1972.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and belonged to the Green Beret Special Forces.  He retired after serving 27 in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He was a proud lifelong member of the American Legion Post 105 of Silver Springs, New York.

Fred enjoyed being outdoors, being on the water fishing or in the woods hunting.  He loved woodworking and doing shop projects.  Fred enjoyed architecture work and making blueprints.  Most of all, he was a people person.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gwendolyn Stoute DeJean, of Boyce, La.; his daughters, Nicole Renee Dejean Nichols and fiancé, Jeff Weaver, of Mount Morris, NY and Stacey DeJean-Bowie, PhD and husband, Anthony Bowie, of Boyce, La.; two sisters, Linda DeJean Forbes of New Jersey and Carolyn DeJean Woods and husband, Harold, of Waxia, La.  He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan Reed and wife, Alexis, Gwendolyn Dejean-Reed, Branden DeJean-Reed, Clayton DeJean-Reed, Thomas Nichols, Jr., and Monique Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Joseph DeJean and Shirley Marie Orgeron DeJean and his son, Brian Paul DeJean.
