Harold Stout

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Harold Stout, age 93, on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas with Reverend Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen as the celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Mr. Stout, a longtime resident of Opelousas, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas. He was born on May 1, 1924. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

As a young man, Mr. Stout owned and operated the Town Theater in Washington, LA, worked for the LA Artificial Breeders Association and sold life insurance. In the early stages of World War II, he joined the Merchant Marines. Mr. Stout became a Merchant Marine seaman who retired as a Captain of Merchant Marine vessels. During his career, he served this country alongside our U. S. Military during war times. He served during World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and during Desert Storm.

Mr. Stout was a member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge 1048 and the VFW. He enjoyed raising his fall and spring gardens. Mr. Stout loved cooking barbeque and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his 5 children: Keith and Georgia Stout of Opelousas; Glenn and Mona Stout of Opelousas; Karen Stout Richard (Douglas) of Lawtell; Jeffery and Sharon Stout of Houston; and Christopher and Ken Stout of Dallas. He is also survived by his sister, Julia Mae Stout Ardoin (Tookie) of Baton Rouge; and by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Deville Stout; his parents, Valrie and Julia Stout; and his siblings, Jake Stout, Earl Stout, Newton Stout, Hilda Stout Joubert, Elva Stout Sonnier, George Stout, Joyce Stout Dejean, and Gladys Stout Tate.

Visiting hours will be observed at the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, January 26, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The Elks Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening followed by the Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. by Deacon Sammy Diesi in the funeral home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Prompt Succor Nursing Home for the wonderful medical care which was given to Mr. Harold during his time of need.
