Howard Joseph Guidry, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Port Barre, Louisiana. He was born on August 24, 1929, in Hazelwood, Louisiana.
Howard served as an army veteran and was proud of his military service. He fought in the Korean War and received a purple heart. After his time in the army, he dedicated his life to providing for his family. Howard was known to be a dedicated and hardworking individual. He had a strong work ethic and always put the needs of his loved ones first.
In addition to his dedication to his family, Howard also had a few hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He had a green thumb and loved spending time in the garden. His passion for gardening allowed him to create beautiful landscapes and grow beautiful vegetables. Additionally, Howard had a talent for woodworking and enjoyed creating intricate pieces with his hands. He also had an adventurous spirit when it came to cooking and loved experimenting with different recipes.
Howard's zest for life extended beyond his hobbies and interests. He cherished spending quality time with his family and created lasting memories with them. His presence brought joy to every family gathering and he will be greatly missed during future celebrations.
Howard is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Elsie Marks Guidry. Together, they built a strong foundation of love and support for their family. Howard will also be remembered by his children: Jerry Guidry (Sandra), Bradley Guidry (Tammy), Kim Guidry (Lora), Diane G. Higginbotham, Janice G. Roberie (Jeff); his sister, Alice G. Hicks; his 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Additionally, there is one more great-grandchild on the way, who will know of Howard's love and legacy through the stories shared by future generations.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Leola Guidry; daughters, Linda Marie Guidry and Agnes Marie Guidry; brother, Louis Guidry; sisters, Ledee Marks and Lydia Riche and husband, Lester; son-in-law, Russell Higginbotham; brother-in-law, Thomas Hicks.
The visitation will begin at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on August 13, 2023, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm with the reciting of the Rosary at 5:00. Visitation will resume on August 14th, 2023 starting at 8:00am until 10:00am. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home with Father Clint Trahan officiating. A Rite of Committal will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Mausloeum.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the sitters, Anne Triplette and Christian Zeigler. Also, thank you to the amazing care Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care gave to Mr. Howard.
Howard Joseph Guidry was a remarkable man whose love for his family knew no bounds. He leaves behind a profound impact on all who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering love. May his soul rest in peace knowing that he brought immense happiness and love into the lives of those he cherished dearly.
