Obituary

It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of Jamie Dean Doucet, age 57, who left us on July 28, 2026. Born on January 11, 1969, Jamie touched many lives throughout his life. He approached whatever task or project that needed to be done with passion and always giving it his all. His determination and commitment will be fondly remembered.

A Celebration of Life and Chapel Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. The family would like to have a time of sharing during the service of good memories of Jamie. Please help contribute to the service by bringing a small written note of remembrance to the funeral home.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

A true adventurer at heart, Jamie found joy in the simplicity and thrill of the outdoors, whether it was sitting by the side of the water taking in the solitude of nature or rafting those waters. Working on his beloved Jeep, embarking on mud rides, getting on the open roads on his motorcycle, and seeking out new adventures brought him immeasurable happiness. The mountains of Georgia called to him, hiking and camping as he cherished moments of peace and exhilaration. His appreciation for the natural world was evident to all who knew him.

He was a passionate fan of Star Wars and Spiderman. He also found great satisfaction in reading – he loved reading his Bible, sharing his deep faith and love for God with anyone open to a comforting word or thoughtful conversation. Always eager and ready to expand his knowledge, he decided to attend ULL at the age of 32. With his incredibly high score, he was accepted into the honors program. Among Jamie’s greatest treasures were his beloved pets, who he affectionately called his fur babies. They were family to him, bringing joy and companionship that brightened his days and provided unconditional love.

He is survived by his brother, Seth Doucet of Augusta, GA; his sisters, Tammy Doucet of Opelousas, LA; Patti Delahoussaye and husband, Paul of Arnaudville, LA; and Shannon Mesa and husband, Santiago of Portland, OR. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Joshua Schubert, Austin Schubert, Leah Richard and husband, Cody; Hollie Babin and husband, Jared; Abbey Babin and husband, Mason; Cade Gravouilla, Pablo Mesa, Mya Doucet, Jayce Doucet, Kane Kerry and Troy Marshall Doucet. He is also survived by six great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jamie was preceded in death by his father, James Thurman Doucet; his mother, Betsy Ross Mayer Wester; and his brother, Troy Marshall Doucet.

Jamie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, dedication, and unwavering faith. May he rest peacefully and may his spirit live on in the adventures and lives of those he inspired.
