Janet Charlene Suttle Leger

Palmetto, Louisiana

Janet Charlene Suttle Leger, a beloved mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 23, 2023. She was a compassionate and nurturing soul who touched the lives of all who knew her. 

A Memorial Service will held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in the First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge,1818 LA Highway 360, Palmetto, LA,71358 with Rev. Bob Fruen officiating.  Family and friends may gather together and share memories from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the church prior to the services.  

Born on December 3, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois, Janet moved to Louisiana in 1978 and lived in Baton Rouge for one year. Then in 1979, she moved to Bayou Rouge and made her home in Palmetto, Louisiana.  She dedicated her life to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant. Her commitment to helping those in need was unparalleled, and she brought comfort and solace to countless individuals during their most difficult times. 

Janet cherished her role as a caretaker and made it her mission to provide unwavering support and love to her grandchildren. Family was at the center of her world, and she showered them with affection. Her nurturing nature extended beyond immediate family, as she became an integral part of the lives of her loved ones.

Devoted to her faith, Janet was an active member of the First Pentecostal Church of Bayou Rouge for many years. She found solace and guidance through reading her bible and remained steadfast in her devotion throughout her life.

Beyond her caregiving responsibilities, Janet had an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed exploring word puzzles and Sudoku puzzles that challenged her mind. Janet also possessed a culinary talent that brought joy to those around her. Renowned for making delicious popcorn balls and baking mouthwatering treats, she could always be counted on to provide delightful indulgences that warmed hearts and satisfied cravings.

Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind. She is reunited with her parents Elmer Suttle and Effie Smith Suttle in eternal peace.

Janet's memory will be treasured by her loving husband, James Reed Leger of Palmetto, LA; her daughters, Kimberly Ryder of Krotz Springs, LA; Shelly Bihm (Timmy) of Opelousas, LA; and Jamie Dupont (Preston) of Melville, LA; and her stepdaughter, Stormie Stelly (Paul) of Sherman, Texas. Her presence will be deeply missed by her brother, Larry Suttle of Illinois; and her sisters, Delores Miller of Washington, Illinois; and Vickie Garon (Chuck) of Liberty, Mississippi.  Janet will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Tyra Taylor, Douglas Tweedel (Michaela), Dustin Bihm (Lacey), Brooklyn Prather (Jared), Devin Bihm, Trent Dupont, and Jaleigh Dupont; great-grandchildren: Addison, Liam, Camden, Croy, Corbyn, Rider, and Hayden; step-grandchild, Timothy Stelly; step-great-grandchildren, Emma and Luke; and her faithful canine companions, Bella and Sissy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Suttle and Effie Smith Suttle; her brother, Jerry Suttle; her sister, Sandra Maples; her maternal grandparents, Alfred Smith and Ada Crockett Smith; as well as her paternal grandparents, William Suttle and Lora Sophia George Suttle.

In the hearts of all who knew her, Janet's memory will forever shine brightly. Her life was a testament to selflessness, compassion, and unconditional love. As we say goodbye to a remarkable woman who brought so much joy into our lives, we can take solace in knowing that she has found eternal peace in the embrace of her heavenly Father.

Janet Charlene Suttle Leger will forever be remembered for the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal serenity.
