Due to the Covid 19 mandated gathering restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park for Joann Hidalgo Duncan. The Reverend Regina Hickman will conduct the service.
Ms. Duncan, age 88, who was a native and resident of Opelousas, LA, died on April 7, 2020 at Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Joann Duncan was an elementary teacher for 40 years, having started her career at Port Barre Elementary but spending the majority of her career teaching at Park Vista Elementary. Just imagine the thousands of young faces that looked up at her for knowledge. When she wasn't enlightening young minds, Joann enjoyed reading, taking photographs and painting. She will greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by sons, Richard L. Duncan and his wife Becky of Bedford, TX and Mark M. Duncan and his wife Kay of Opelousas; her grandchildren, Jennifer Steffensen and her husband Matt, Michael Duncan, Sarah Duncan, and Matthew Duncan and a great grandchild, Miles Steffensen.
Joann is preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Duncan; parents, Merrick and Eula Marie Boone Hidalgo; sister, Katherine Lynas and a brother, Larry Hidalgo.
