Jody Lavergne

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jody Jude Lavergne "Big Nasty" on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Ted Broussard will officiate the Mass.

Mr. Lavergne, age 55, was a resident of Opelousas, LA, died on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Jody was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He was a proud member of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, Yambassadors Bass Fishing Club, NTF, Bayou Rouge Hunting Club, B.A.S.S. Pro-Am and Fishers of Men. Jody also enjoyed entering cooking competitions with his family's team, "Get U Some". Jody will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his mother, Elsie Lavergne of Opelousas, LA; his son, Nolton Kyle Lavergne and wife, Jade E. of Ville Platte, LA; his daughter, Hailey Jo Lavergne and boyfriend, Kyle Guidry of Opelousas, LA; his sister, Elizabeth L. Soileau and husband, Carter of Central, LA and the mother of his children, Jeanine H. Lavergne. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Adeline E. Buller and soon to be first grandson, Emmett Joseph Lavergne.

He was preceded in death by father, Nolton Joseph Lavergne; his paternal grandparents, Willie Lavergne and Ida Lejeune; his step-grandmother, Helen F. Lavergne and his maternal grandparents, Palamon and Anna Deville.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday by Reverend Austin Leger.

Pallbearers will be Nolton Kyle Lavergne, Kyle Blake Guidry, Ashton "Tunnie" Miller, Jr., Clay Armand, Eric Soileau, Gregory Fontenot and honorary pallbearer, Carter Soileau.
