John Arlen Lafleur

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John Arlen Lafleur at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, La.  Reverend Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.  Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. John Arlen Lafleur, age 84, on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Mr. Lafleur was a farmer and businessman.  During his farming years, he proudly received the Outstanding Young Farmer award.  He was a parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He also served as president of the St. Landry Parish Police Jury and Charter President of the Grand Prairie Fire Department.  He was a member of the Port of Krotz Springs and the Grand Prairie Water System.  Arlen was a St. Landry Parish school bus driver for 23 years.  He loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter and was a member of the Sugar House Hunting Club for many years.  Arlen also enjoyed traveling, fishing, talking politics and loved LSU sports.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Earleen Roberie Lafleur of Grand Prairie, La.; his son, Phillip Jeremy Lafleur and fiancé, Sarah Thibodeaux of Mandeville, La. and his daughter, Millie Lafleur Fontenot and husband, Don, of Grand Prairie, La.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Dustin Fontenot of Washington, La., Parker and Gabrielle Lafleur of Mandeville, La. and Kristiana Lafleur of New Orleans, La.  He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Fontenot of Grand Prairie, La. and Sophia Fontenot of Washington, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Emma Fontenot Lafleur.

Pallbearers will be Parker Lafleur, Rusty Brignac, Dustin Fontenot, Don Fontenot, Bryan Fontenot and Mickey Duos.  Honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Fruge'.
