Johnny Lee Coates, Jr. of Port Barre, Louisiana passed away on June 10, 2024, at Opelousas General Health System. He was a beloved husband, father, son, and friend who had a kind heart and loving spirit.

Funeral Services for Johnny Lee Coates, Jr., age 40, will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Krotz Springs.  Pastor Benji Richard will conduct the service.  Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Krotz Springs on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

The pallbearers will be Chance Vidrine, Blake Godeaux, Freddie Harrison, Brad McMurray, Mark McMurray and Trey Mason.  Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Lee Coates, III and Sherman Hollier.

Johnny was born on July 10, 1983.  He brought joy to all those around him. He was known for his love of music - listening to it, dancing to it, and even singing along to his favorite songs. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and playing basketball. Johnny's vibrant personality and zest for life were infectious.

One of Johnny's greatest joys in life was spending time with his children. He adored his kids and cherished every moment he had with them. His memory will live on through the love he shared with his family.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Chelsea Coates of Port Barre, LA; his mother and step-father, Cookie Harrison and Freddie Harrison of Krotz Springs, LA; his beloved children, Johnny Lee Coates, III of Opelousas, LA, Kaylee Brooke Coates of Opelousas, LA, Khloe Grace Coates of Opelousas, LA and their mother, Crystal Coates; his daughter, Gracelyn Paige Coates of Port Barre, LA, that he and Chelsea had together; his brothers, Mark McMurray and wife, LaJuan of Crowville, LA, Brad McMurray and wife, Tammie of Winnsboro, LA; his sisters, Shanna Erskin and husband, Barry of Liddieville, LA, and Johnica Godeaux and husband, Blake of Krotz Springs, LA; as well as a host of other family members and friends.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kylie Keys, Allison Smith, Dalton and Dawson Smith, Colton McMurray, Hannah Godeaux, Abigail Godeaux and Nathan Godeaux and his great-niece and nephew, Noah and Kya Keys.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Lee Coates, Sr.; his niece, Blakelynn Godeaux; his grandparents, Beatrice and Randy Thompson; his uncles, Jerry Coates, Larry Coates, Jackie Coates and Buster Mason and his aunt, Nellie Duplechain.

In the hearts of those who knew him, Johnny's legacy will continue to shine brightly. He will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he shared with everyone around him.

May Johnny rest in peace knowing that he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Johnny's legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on through all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
