Johnny devoted 38 years of his life as an Agriculture Environmental Specialist with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, retiring in 2011 after a distinguished career. His expertise and dedication left a lasting impact on those he worked with and the wider agricultural community. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Johnny was known for his outgoing personality and his love of sharing time with friends.
He enjoyed farming and being around nature, Johnny found joy tending to his vegetable garden and indulging in his love of fishing. He enjoyed collecting antiques, a hobby that brought him great satisfaction over the years. His appreciation for the simple, meaningful pleasures of life defined much of his character. Johnny loved his grandchildren dearly and cherished his family.
Johnny’s spiritual life was equally significant to him. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell, Louisiana, where he was a valued member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5532. As a 3rd Degree Knight and a former Grand Knight, he contributed selflessly to his church and community, embodying the virtues of service and fellowship.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Arceneaux Timmons of Opelousas; his daughter, Tracey Timmons of Lake Charles; and son, Jason Timmons and his wife, Margaret “Maggie” of Arnaudville. He took immense pride and joy in his grandchildren, Brendan, Evan, and Ava Timmons, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Johnny’s life was also shaped by those who went before him, including his son, Toby James Timmons; his parents, Alfred Timmons and Isabelle Lalonde Timmons; and his siblings, Joe Timmons, James Timmons, and Virgie T. Guillory.
Johnny will be remembered as a hard worker with a very outgoing spirit and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of dedication, kindness, and love for the land and his family endures as a profound testament to a well-lived life.
