A Mass of Christian Burial for Josephine “Josie” Daigle Prudhomme will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. A Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Josephine “Josie” Prudhomme, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 77. She was born on August 21, 1947, in Church Point, Louisiana. Josie was a woman whose life was marked by her dedication to family, community, and service.
Throughout her career, Josephine wore many hats. She began her professional journey as a telephone operator, later joining her husband, Larry, in their mobile home business. Their partnership not only strengthened their bond but also brought stability and support to their community. Josephine's passion for education led her to serve as a substitute teacher at Park Vista Elementary. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her role as a Catechism assistant at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Her work extended to her family as well, as she worked with her daughter, Desiree, at Kid Med, contributing her skills as an office worker. However, above all her accomplishments, she loved entertaining and cooking dinner every Sunday for her family. It was her devotion to her grandchildren that defined her. She cherished every moment spent with them, fully embracing her role as a grandmother and nurturing their growth and happiness.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her sons, Drew Prudhomme of Opelousas; and Brandon Prudhomme and his wife, Breanna Prudhomme of Opelousas; her son-in-law, Dean Edmond Richard of Opelousas; as well as her daughters, Michelle Landry and her husband, Emery of Sunset; and Leslie Prudhomme Dubbs of Opelousas; her brothers: Harry Hilman Daigle and his wife, Gloria of Church Point; John Anthony Daigle and his wife, Jodie of Rockhill, NC; Wade Daigle of Church Point; and Wayne Daigle and his wife, Susie of Church Point; her sisters, Catherine Meche of Crowley; Barbara "Bobbie" Letchworth and her husband, Robert Bobby of Carencro; Patricia "Pat" Nicko of Sunset; Jackie Van Buren and her husband, Tom of Smithville, Virginia; Elaine Lyons and her husband, Charles of Church Point; Joycelyn Miller of Leonville; and Carol "Susie" Menard of Church Point. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Josephine's legacy includes her beloved grandchildren: Eric Leger and his wife, Paige, Phillip Landry, Hannah Landry, Brody Prudhomme, Victoria Smith and her husband, Matthew, Blaire Richard White and her husband, Dillon, Brittany Dubbs Badeaux and her husband, Nicholas, Callie Dubbs, Lizzie Dubbs Dalfrey and her husband, AJ, Connor Dubbs, Kennedi Dubbs, Avery Prudhomme, Cadence Prudhomme, and Landon Prudhomme. Additionally, she was a cherished great-grandmother to Haiden Leger, Addison Leger, Jaide Leger, Sawyer Leger, Wyatt Badeaux, Josey Badeaux, Tripp Dalfrey, Myla Dalfrey and Amari Dalfrey.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Larry Edward Prudhomme; her daughter, Desiree Prudhomme Richard; her brother, Daniel Daigle; and her parents, Roosevelt M. Daigle and Octavie Smith Daigle.
Josephine Prudhomme will be remembered not only for her unwavering love for her family but also for her service to the community, her nurturing spirit, and the profound impact she had on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on through her loved ones and the memories they hold dear.
Pallbearers for the service will be Drew Prudhomme, Brandon Prudhomme, Brody Prudhomme, Eric Leger, Connor Dubbs, and Landon Prudhomme.
Josie will be greatly missed but forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, and a kind-hearted individual who touched numerous lives with her presence.
