Juanita Theriot passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. She was a resident of Port Barre, LA.
Juanita, affectionately known as Momma, Granny, and D, was a devoted matriarch whose greatest joy was her family. She was a deep lover and loyal follower of Jesus Christ and longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Juanita, who claimed to be “Shy”, touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. She will be extremely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Juanita Theriot will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. Fr. Henry Antony will officiate the services. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Prairie Ronde.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Michael Vidrine of Arnaudville; Cindy Reed and husband, Gordy of Krotz Springs; Robert “Steve” Theriot (SGM, retired) and wife, Nikki of Grand Prairie; and daughter-in-law, Agnes Theriot of Opelousas.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Theriot; her father and mother, Noah and Edna Lavergne of Lawtell; all eight of her siblings (3 brothers and 5 sisters); daughter, Maxine; son, Paul J. Theriot “Tyo” of Opelousas; grandson, Scotty Vidrine of Opelousas; and daughter-in-law, Donna Vidrine of Arnaudville.
Juanita’s family meant everything to her as she proclaimed that they were her reason for living. She expressed her unconditional love and bragged to anyone who would listen about her children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. All brought her immense pride and joy throughout the years.
The Pallbearers for the service will be Nicholas Theriot, Blake Theriot, Victoria Theriot, Cody Reed, Holdan McRae, and John Dupuis. The Honorary Pallbearers include Lane Reed, Camden Theriot, Kade Savoie, and Hunter Vidrine.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home of Opelousas for their wonderful medical care and love given to Mrs. Juanita.
