Kitty Kartchner Barker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 2, 2023, at Opelousas General Hospital. She was born on March 28, 1954, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the late Claude and Olita Kartchner.
Kitty was an extraordinary woman with a big heart and a zest for life. She will always be remembered for her countless adventures with her grandchildren who were her world. They brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. One of her greatest pleasures was cooking for her family and friends. Her famous spaghetti soup was a dish that brought people together and warmed hearts.
Beyond her culinary talents and love for her grandchildren, Kitty had an undeniable knack for all things she set out to accomplish. She could easily be described as a jack of all trades because she excelled in everything she did. Whether it was working numbers for her accouting career or taking on woodworking projects, Kitty's skill and dedication shone through in every endeavor.
As we mourn the loss of Kitty Kartchner Barker, we find solace in knowing that she will forever remain in our hearts. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kitty is survived by her son, Chad Barker and his husband, Lucas LaChance; her daughter Sheree Barker Sanders and her husband, Mitchell; her grandchildren, Riley Sanders, Cole Sanders, Kacey Cox, Derek Cox and Celina Cox; as well as numerous other dear family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Boyd Barker; her parents, Claude and Olita Kartchner; her daughter, Seslie Barker; her granddaughter, Ashley Cox; her brother, William "Bill" Kartchner; sisters, Willa Faye Kartchner and Lowana Kartchner Marioneaux; and numerous other family members.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Krotz Springs. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a reception at the church hall.
Kitty Kartchner Barker will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, genuine kindness, and the indelible mark she left on the lives of all those she encountered. She will be profoundly missed, but her beautiful spirit will live on through the cherished memories she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
