Mr. Larry "Teetsy" James Johnson, 69, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 18, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1956, to Maurice "Mr. Man" Johnson and Corina Kelly. He graduated from Opelousas High in 1974, upon completing graduation, he joined the United States Navy. After completing his service with the Navy, he began a career with the United States Postal Service where he worked for over 15 years. Everyone who knew him also called him "Teetsy" as well as "the mailman". Larry was a talented athlete, he played basketball at Opelousas High School and later joined a semi-pro league. He started boxing in the Navy and continued competing and training others during his life. Some of his other hobbies included, singing in the school/ church choir and making gospel music. He also loved nothing more than spending time with his family & his kids. He was as the tough uncle and dad, that everyone loved. He would do anything for his family.
Visitation will be held at on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the Greater Live Oak Baptist Church (723 Leo St., Opelousas, LA, 70570).
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Live Oak Baptist Church with Pastor David Walker officiating.
Cherishing his memories are his four children: Tammy Rene Johnson (Crystal), Marcus Johnson (Sherlysia), Rodrick Charles (Aarika), and Myrtis Clemons; siblings: Patsy Washington, Jacob Johnson (Patty), Curley Kelly (Courtney), Patsy Johnson, Linda Tyler (Joseph), Darren Johnson (Penny), Stella King, Maurice Walker (David), Connie Johnson, Donna Johnson, Kevin Johnson (Tanya), and Sheretta Dudley (Simon); 18 Grandkids: Ariel, Isaiah, Kalani Stein, Ariyani, Karter, Taylah, Leah , Lacie, Joradyn, Lana, Trenton, Annaclaire, Noah, Kayla, Kyra, Kyle, Gerriecia, Tyneishia; and 3 great grandkids: Londyn Grier, Sai Charles, and Elias Charles.
He is preceded in death by his mom, Corina Kelly; father, Maurice (Mr. Man) Johnson; step-father, Curley Kelly; 3 sisters, Barbara Lewis, MaryAnn Washington, and Pamela Houston; and 2 brothers: Lionel and Ronald Johnson.
