A Mass of Christian Burial for Larry Prudhomme will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.
Larry Edward Prudhomme passed away on September 29, 2023, at the Heart Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was born on July 28, 1947, in DeRidder, Louisiana, and was a longtime resident of Opelousas.
Larry devoted many years of his life to the mobile home sales business, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Through his dedication and hard work, he helped countless individuals and families find their dream homes. Larry's expertise and genuine care for his clients earned him a distinguished reputation within the community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry will be remembered most for the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him. His family was at the center of his world, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He spared no effort in creating a loving and structured environment for them.
Larry was known for his fondness for leaving notes around the house. These carefully crafted messages held significant meanings for his family members and served as constant reminders of his love and support. Not only did Larry dedicate himself to his immediate family but also extended his caring nature to others as well. Many individuals had the privilege of calling him a father figure due to the transformative impact he made on their lives.
Larry indulged in several passions that brought him immense joy. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in dove hunting and duck hunting—the thrill of being in nature providing an escape from daily life. Additionally, Larry would often retreat to his deer ranch in Texas—a place where he found tranquility amidst natural beauty.
He had a deep love for dancing and could often be seen twirling his wife across the dance floor with grace and joy. Playing Bouree card games brought out his competitive spirit while strengthening the bonds of friendship. Furthermore, Larry's love for travel took him to numerous destinations worldwide and throughout the United States, broadening his perspective and enriching his understanding of different cultures.
Larry 's legacy lives on through the memories he leaves behind. His unwavering dedication to family, his compassionate nature, and his zest for life serve as an inspiration to us all. May we carry forward the values he embodied and his dedication to his Catholic faith. Continue to cherish our loved ones with the same passion and devotion that he demonstrated every day.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55years, Josie Prudhomme; two sons, Drew Prudhomme and fiancé, Elizabeth Racca; and Brandon Prudhomme and wife, Breanna Prudhomme; two daughters, Michelle Landry and husband, Emery Landry; and Leslie Prudhomme Dubbs; and grandchildren, Eric Leger and wife, Paige; Phillip Landry, Hannah Landry, Brody Prudhomme, Victoria Smith and husband, Matthew Smith; Blaire Richard White and husband, Dillon; Brittany Dubbs Badeaux and husband, Nicholas; Callie Dubbs, Lizzie Dubbs Dalfrey, Connor Dubbs, Kennedi Dubbs; Avery Prudhomme, Cadence Prudhomme, and Landon Prudhomme; great-grandchildren: Haiden Leger, Addison Leger, Jaide Leger, Sawyer Leger, and Wyatt Badeaux; brother, Mitchell Prudhomme and wife, Charlotte; sisters, Mona Fontenot and husband, Terry; Karen Winn, and Vickie Venable and husband, Roger; son-in-law, Dean Edmond Richard; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lanlen “LG” Prudhomme; mother, Octavia Jones Prudhomme Richard; stepfather, Hubert Richard; daughter, Desiree Prudhomme Richard; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Scott and Glen Winn.
Pallbearers for the services will be Drew Prudhomme, Brandon Prudhomme, Emery Landry, Dean Edmond Richard, Eric Leger, Connor Dubbs, Brody Prudhomme, and Landon Prudhomme. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Joubert and Tommy Joubert.
Larry will be greatly missed but forever remembered as a loving husband, a caring father figure, and a kind-hearted individual who touched numerous lives with his presence.
