Lynda Dupre, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at her residence in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was born on September 16, 1958, in Arnaudville, Louisiana. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family.
A visitation for Lynda will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, visitation will continue in the St. Edmond Catholic Church, 4131 West Congress Street, Lafayette, LA beginning at 9:00 AM until mass time at 10:00 AM. The Reverend Joe Campion will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Inurnment will be held in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Cemetery in Grand Coteau, La.
She graduated from Leonville High School, where she played volleyball and cheered for the boys' basketball team. Lynda continued to pursue volleyball and softball into her adulthood alongside her sisters.
For many years, Lynda served as a judicial assistant to Judge Gerald Schiff in the United States Bankruptcy court – Western District of Louisiana, a role that signified her commitment to her profession and community. After Judge Schiff’s retirement, she continued to work for his successor, Judge Robert R. Summerhays and continued to work for him when he was elevated to the United States District Court until 2020.
In 2020 Lynda retired to embrace a new chapter of life filled with family and adventures.
Lynda's journey through life was notably enriched by her family. She met her husband, Gene Dupre, by chance during a Cajun dance class, and they were together for the next 32 years. Lynda raised three amazing daughters, and each daughter carried forward her legacy of strength and compassion.
Lynda valued her family above all and enjoyed every moment spent in their company. She was known for her skills in the kitchen, delighting her loved ones with spicy dishes that reflected her vibrant personality. Whether engaging in lively games of Bourre with family and friends or exploring casinos from Mississippi to Nevada, Lynda embraced life with a remarkable enthusiasm.
A proud Catholic throughout her life, Lynda maintained a strong faith which remained with her until the end of her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gene Dupre; her daughters, Jenee Doucet, Andrea Doucet and her spouse, Crystal Michel, and Samantha Doucet; her father, Lee Roy Richard; her stepsons, Ray Dupre and his wife, Nichole, and Ross Dupre and his wife, Amanda; her siblings, Gordon Richard and Cheryl Richard; her sister-in-law JoAnn Richard; her Godchild, Jaide Perez; and her step-grandchildren, Tre' Dupre, Amelia Prugh, and Abelie Dupre. She also leaves behind Gary Doucet, the father of her children.
Lynda is preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine "Gerry" Stelly Richard; her sister, Sandra Richard; her brother, Kevin Richard; and her step-grandson, Cameron Dupre’.
Lynda will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her zest for life, and her generous spirit. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. “Life is short – tell your family you love them every chance you get and show them you love them.”
