Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 12, 2018, for Magdalen "Maggie" Carol Wimberly Richard at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Richard, age 92, a resident of Lafayette, LA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas.

"Maggie" as she was fondly known, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Maggie worked for several years at the credit union and Fakouri's. In the late 70's, she and HL opened Maggie's Play School, one of the first ever licensed daycares in Opelousas.

Maggie loved the outdoors and had a truly "green" thumb. She could make anything grow from a twig. She loved to sew and made many of her children's clothes and dance recital costumes. Maggie was a strong woman. She was a breast cancer survivor of 46 years. She loved and was extremely proud of all her children and attended every game, every dance review and every event her children were involved in. Her other great love of her life was her husband, HL of 75 years. She fondly referred to him as her "O.B". They met on a blind date for Maggie's junior/senior prom and married a year and half later. The two were inseparable. She was a faithful, loyal and loving wife. Her favorite pastime was going to the casino.

She is survived by her husband of 75 years, HL Richard; her son, Carl Richard and wife, Cindy and her daughter, Sherry LeBas. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Carl Richard, Jr., Todd Richard, Carla Duhon, Kim Huggins, Robbie LeBas, Lainey Estes, Siscerly Quebedeaux, Bubba Richard and Jordan Richard. She is also survived by a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vorris and Evelyn Wimberly; her infant son, Robert Glen Richard; her son, David Gerald Richard and her siblings, Evelyn Wimberly Wiggins and Phillip Wimberly.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM on Sunday by Deacon Jerome Collins. Visitation will continue Monday, November 12, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Pallbearers will be Robbie LeBas, Bubba Richard, Jordan Richard, Todd Richard, Adam Estes, Tim Duhon and Chad Quebodeaux. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Richard family to the many CNA's and nurses at Senior Village who took care of Maggie. A very special thanks to Josephine, Tanya, Della, Christie, Kim and Helen for taking such wonderful care of Maggie. The family would like to thank all the staff of Senior Village and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and support.
