Margaret Anna Ortego Benoit, a beloved homemaker, was born on August 16, 1946, in Ville Platte, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas, Louisiana, leaving behind treasured memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Margaret dedicated her life to her family, finding immense joy in spending quality time with her loved ones. Her role as a mother and grandmother brought her the proudest accomplishments of her life, as she poured her heart into caring for her children and grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit and warm personality made her a beloved figure in their lives.
Outside of her family commitments, Margaret had a deep passion for gardening. She loved planting flowers and tending to her vegetable garden, activities that were not only a source of beauty but also brought her a sense of peace and fulfillment. Her green thumb and dedication to cultivating her surroundings reflected the love she carried for both her home and family.
Funeral Services for Margaret Anna Ortego Benoit will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, Louisiana. Deacon Dwayne Joubert will officiate the services. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Meg” Fontenot of Lafayette; son, Alfred L. “Bubba” Benoit, Jr. of Opelousas; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Benoit of Opelousas; her grandchildren, Joshua Benoit, Kaleb Benoit, Jonah Fontenot and his wife, Stephanie of Montana, Jada Fontenot and her companion, Kyle Boudreaux, Kristie Faul and her husband, Ashtyn, Beau Benoit and Caden Journet; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Alfred Leonce Benoit, Sr.; her parents, Juslin Ortego and Margaret Anna Ardoin Ortego; her daughter, Dwauna Marie Benoit; her son, John “Dwain” Benoit; daughter-in-law, Trisha Benoit; five brothers: James Henry Ortego, James Floyd Ortego, Robert Louis Ortego, John Stanley Ortego, and Juslin Dave Ortego; her sisters: Juanita Buller and Willie Marie Smith.
Margaret's legacy is one of love, dedication, and nurturing, affirming the profound impact she had on the lives of those around her. She will be remembered fondly and missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
