Opelousas

Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Marie Elaine Joubert Soileau, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.

Visitation will be held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert.

Mrs. Soileau, age 85, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. 

Elaine worked for over 40 years at Opelousas Health System, where she worked diligently in the business office. 

As a devout Catholic, Elaine was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she devoted herself to prayer, and praying her rosary numerous times a day. 

Elaine's warm and loving personality made her a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed shopping trips, outings to local casinos and visiting with her family and friends. 

Elaine will be remembered for her unwavering love, generosity, and the joy she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the memories she created and the love she shared. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her daughters, Jerelyn Mayeux and her husband, David; Tina Soileau and Dawn Hargroder and her husband, Marty; her brother-in-law, B.J. Soileau and his wife, Glenda and her sisters-in-law, Patsy Soileau and Linda Joubert. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David Nicholas “Nick” Mayeux and his wife Kristin, Dr. Alex Michael Mayeux and his wife, Kimberly, Benjamin Adam Mayeux, Emily Hargroder Picard and her husband, Logan and four great-grandchildren, David James Mayeux, Thomas Henry Mayeux, Charlotte Camille Mayeux and Sawyer Elaine Picard.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James “Jimmy” Soileau; her parents, Joseph Alton Joubert and Elizabeth Joubert; her brothers, Louis “Moe” Vernon Joubert and Roland Joubert; her sisters, Anna Lois Joubert and Mary Joyce Joubert and her brothers-in-law, Gerald Soileau and Leo Soileau.

The pallbearers will be David Mayeux, Nicholas Mayeux, Logan Picard, Doyle Billeaudeau, Marty Hargroder and Keith Bono. The honorary pallbearer will be Benjamin Mayeux.
