It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Marie Genin Hammons, age 74, on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Calcutta House in Lafayette, LA. She worked for My Hospitality for many years and her career was to assist with many hotel events.
Marie had a passion for helping others with Public Service activities, volunteering in the community, and entertaining. She cherished time with family, making memories with her girlfriends, going on vacation to the beach, and riding in the Miata. We have taken the liberty of notifying Waterville USA that her lifetime ban from the Go-Kart track may be lifted. Marie’s presence will be also be missed at New Orleans Mardi Gras. On a more positive note, Officers working the Canal Street will no longer need to tell her to “get down from there” as she tried to catch all the beads. Sadly, commuters in the Covington and Acadiana area will no longer witness “that lady” wearing the red clown nose during their daily commute. Marie never met a stranger and was truly a shining light. Marie dearly loved her family and friends and the memories made with her will live in them forever.
Marie is survived by one son, Stephen Hammons and wife, Ashley of Broussard; one daughter, Stephanie Salinas and husband, Ernesto of Morgan Hill, CA; best friend, Preston Hammons of Lafayette; brother, Charles “Casey” Genin and wife, Debra of Opelousas; two sisters, Charlotte Kahanek and husband, Daniel of Opelousas; and Carolyn Mills and husband, Cliff of Opelousas; and two grandchildren, Jaxton Salinas and Olivia Hammons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Genin, Sr. and Fannie Gennie; her paternal grandparents, Charles and Marie Genin; her maternal grandparents, Garland and Julia Dejean; and her precious dog, Maggie who was her “furbaby”.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.
