Mark was a humble man who cared deeply for his family. He cherished the moments spent shrimping, hunting, and fishing, where he found solace and joy in the great outdoors. Music held a special place in his heart as well; he delighted in playing the harmonica and accordion, often bringing happiness to gatherings with his melodious tunes. A true craftsman, Mark took great pride in his skills as a gunsmith. After his retirement, he spent many afternoons working in his shop in his favorite coveralls.
His weekends were often filled with camaraderie at the hunting camp, a place where friendships were forged and stories were shared. He dedicated countless hours on his tractor and maintaining his club for his friends and family. A devoted family man, Mark made it a priority to spend quality time with those he loved, particularly during holidays. His presence was felt deeply at the monthly Cajun music jam, where he connected with the community around him.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Mark Allen Smith, of Opelousas; his daughter, Diana Claire Smith, of Carencro; his brothers, Harry Smith(Ethel), of Sunset, Jim Smith, of Church Point, Gerald Smith(Diane), of Church Point and Douglas Smith(Josie), of Lafayette; his two grandchildren, Tyler Smith, of Opelousas and Blaine Smith, of Lafayette; Melissa Holden Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Bellard Smith; his parents, Ernest and Lelia Smith; his brothers, Huby Smith and Linus Smith; and his sister, Eula Mae Gentry.
Mark Norbert Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, craftmanship, and family. His memory will continue to resonate through the lives he touched, and the stories shared amongst friends and family.
