Opelousas - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 for Mary Norma Trahan Prudhomme Cortez at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen will officiate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Bridget Cemetery in Lawtell.

Mary Norma Trahan Prudhomme Cortez, age 86 and a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at St. Landry Extended Care Hospital.

Norma was the owner and operator of Opelousas School of Cosmetology. She was also the past historian of the Louisiana Association of Cosmetology Schools. Norma was a cosmetology instructor for over 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and working at her school. Norma loved spending time with her family and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Linus Cortez; sons, Bert Prudhomme, Paul Prudhomme (Cheryl) and Carl Prudhomme (Sheila); daughter, Ann Warren (Blake); brother, Joseph Trahan (Becky); sister, Herbie Vidrine; grandchildren, Brannon, Spring, Krissi, Lesli, Kelli, Kyle, Damien, Paige, Neal, Katie, Ali, Anni, Emma, Abbey, Lindsey, Ethan and Logan; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband for over 50 years, Herbert Prudhomme; son, Dennis Prudhomme; parents, Joseph Neville Trahan and Annie Comeaux Trahan; brothers, Floyd Trahan and Hersey Trahan; and sister, Ruby Tate.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening by Deacon Jerome Collins. Visitation will continue on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Bert Prudhomme, Paul Prudhomme, Carl Prudhomme, Neal Prudhomme, Damien Prudhomme and Brannon Prudhomme. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ethan Warren, Logan Warren and Kyle Prudhomme.
