Mary Elaine "Blue" Marks

Opelousas – A funeral service will be held for Mary Elaine “Blue” Bernard Marks on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.  Deacon Jerome Collins will conduct the service.  Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Elaine, age 84, a resident of Opelousas, La., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine loved cooking for her family and was known for her delicious crawfish bisque and her special BBQ sauce.  She enjoyed being outdoors, going to the beach and spending time in Grand Isle.   Elaine loved spending time at their camp on Courtableau and always cooked a big breakfast for everyone that was there.  She was a wonderful caregiver and loved taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and others as if they were her own.  Elaine was a loving person and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Yorick J. Marks of Opelousas, La.; her son, Kurt Marks of Opelousas, La.; her daughter, Sandra (Kurt) Soileau of Opelousas, La. and her sisters, Blanche Lyons of Church Point, La. and Eva Grimes of Scott, La.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tabitha (Dwayne) Vincent of Broussard, La., Carmen (Joshua) Leger of Opelousas, La., Heidi (Daniel Jr.) Arnaud of Opelousas, La., Kelsi Soileau of Opelousas, La., Tyler Marks of Youngsville, La. and Broc Soileau of Opelousas, La. and eleven great-grandchildren, Jolie’ Leger, Cole Vincent, Cree Leger, Dara Lynn Arnaud, Sydney Leger, Zacary Vincent, Rylee Vincent, Gregory Arnaud, Audie Leger, Benjamin Arnaud and Lucas Arnaud.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Heribert Bernard and Adele Stelly Bernard; her brothers, Leroy Bernard, Joseph Bernard, Lawrence Bernard, Murphy Bernard and Yves Bernard; her sister, Rita Venable; her brothers-in-law, Norris Venable, Carrol Lyons and Elgin Lejeune; and her sisters-in-law, Rena Bernard, Mervis Bernard, Irene Bernard, Ruth Bernard and Wanda Bernard.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 17, 2023 beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m. by Cecille Dupre in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas.  Visitation will continue Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service. 

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Vincent, Cole Vincent, Josh Leger, Cree Leger, Tyler Marks and Daniel Arnaud, Jr.
