Mary Alice Gautreaux Lavergne, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Prairie Ronde, Louisiana, on April 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong servant to her community, Mary Alice was proud to serve as the former president of the local United Way and was a devoted member of the Beta Club. She had a deep love for Cajun culture and was known for her warm hospitality, quick smile, and her famous crawfish bisque, a centerpiece of countless family gatherings. More than anything, Mary Alice was the glue that held her large Cajun family together. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and love — where traditions were honored and memories made. Her steadfast love and nurturing spirit strengthened the bonds of her family and community, and her legacy of unity and devotion will live on for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Merrick Gautreaux and Willie Mae Bihm Doucet; her siblings, John Ray Gautreaux and Loretta Ducharme; her brother-in-law, Glenn Soileau; her niece, Sara Kay Wriborg; her godchild, Lance Joubert; her sons-in-law, Boyd Quirk and Tracy Boudreaux; and her husband and best friend, Joe Lavergne.
Mary Alice’s spirit endures in those she leaves behind: her brothers Joseph "Bubba" (Mary Ellen) Gautreaux, Merrick "Noonie" (Sheryl) Gautreaux, and David Gautreaux; her sister, Faye Soileau; and her daughters, Tammy Lavergne, Gina Quirk (Boyd), Tracy Lavergne (Chris Clarkson), Susie Reed (Chris Pitre), and Tina Ramirez (Rhett). She was a proud grandmother to Kristin Benoit (Chris), Scotty Boudreaux (Daniela), Stephanie Hollier (Chris), Logan Leger (Jacob), Kaitlyn Mayer (Isaac), Jenna Brignac, and Rex Ramirez. Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Landon, Amela, Benjamin, Allen, Abigail, Boyd Lane, Hunter, Kohen, Malaki, Andre, and Violet.Mary Alice also leaves behind her beloved godchildren, Phyllis Gautreaux Hartman and Alida Gautreaux, along with numerous nieces and nephews who each held a special place in her heart.
Mary Alice’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her. As they say in Cajun country,"Laissez les bon temps rouler" — Let the good times roll. And through the lives she touched, the good times — and her spirit — will continue to roll on.
