John dedicated his career to being a small engine mechanic, earning a reputation as a great repairman. His expertise and dedication to his craft were matched only by his passion for classic cars, which he loved to work on and admire. Beyond his professional pursuits, he engaged in small woodwork projects that showcased his craftsmanship and creativity.

A devout Catholic, John was a longtime parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, where he attended Mass daily. He was also a proud member of the Plaisance Rosary group, embodying the values of faith and community throughout his life.

John had an enthusiastic heart for music, delighting in listening to LaTasse on KVPI radio, as well as enjoying Oldies Goldies and French Music. His vibrant personality brought joy to family gatherings, and he particularly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished unconditionally. He held a special bond with his Arnaud family resonating with the love and fellowship with the entire family.

One of John’s proudest accomplishments was his ability to inspire and encourage those around him. His positive influence propelled many of his loved ones to strive for greatness, and this spirit of encouragement defined his relationships.

John was a beloved husband to Cecille Arnaud Dupre of Opelousas with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He also enjoyed a close-knit family, his son, Johnny Dupre (Toshia); his daughter, Amy Prestenbach; sister, Joyce Brundrett; 7 grandchildren: Carlon Dupre (Natasia), Madison Perioux (Grant), Isaac Yarbrough, Lane Dupre, Samuel “Sammy” Dupre, Ava Prestenbach, and Jacob Dupre; 2 step-grandchildren: Lindsay Breaux (Alex) and Kolby Council; one great-grandbaby on the way, Natalie; and a dear friend who was like a son, James Bartlett.

He was also survived by his godchildren: Mark and Shelly Arnaud, Calvin James Ardoin, and Tanya Dupre; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who greatly admired him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hilary Dupre and Mary Ardoin Dupre; sister, Carolyn Arnaud; and great-grandson, Maddux Dupre.

The Dupre family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to all their family, friends, and neighbors who have helped in many ways during their time of need. Also, special thanks to Dr. Stacey Mayeaux, the staff of Opelousas General Health System, and the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Opelousas for their compassion and medical care.

John's presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of sharing their lives with him. His kindness, devotion, and passionate spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of his family and friends as his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
