It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pamela Marie Ortego Landreneau, age 74, of Washington, Louisiana, who left us peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Born on September 17, 1951, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Pam lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, service, and a deep devotion to her Catholic faith. She was beloved as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and community leader. Above all, Pam found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and friends, whom she cherished deeply.
Pam is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, William Dwight Landreneau, her lifelong friend and high school sweetheart. She is also survived by her daughters, Jeanne Naia Landreneau Buller (Scott) of Washington, Sara Elizabeth Landreneau Kleinpeter (Christopher Csonka) of Baton Rouge, and Lauren Denise Landreneau Marino (Joseph) of Lafayette; and her cherished grandchildren: Hunter Buller (18), Graham Kleinpeter (16), Camille Buller (16), William Marino (7), and Joey Rose Marino (5). Pam is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Joan and Al Dugas of Parker, CO, Joy Ortego of Washington, Craig and Sally Ortego of Carencro, Renee and Greg Doucet of Washington, Cindy Ortego of Opelousas, Cathy and Philip Bueche of Houma, Jamie and Dru Milke of Lafayette, and Frances and Greg Scott of Thompson Station, TN; and siblings-in-law, Karl and Jo Ann Landreneau of Baton Rouge, Guy and Connie Landreneau of Washington, Charles and Kary Landeneau of Washington, and Julie Landreneau of Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Rose and Lionel Ortego, and her parents-in-law, the late Justin Curry and Mary Ethel Landreneau, as well as her brothers, the late Brian T. Ortego and Lionel Ortego, Jr.
Pam retired from her career as a bank professional, having spent more than 40 years as a small business loan officer and manager of local banks. At the time of retirement, Pam was the City President of Midsouth Bank in Opelousas. Pam was respected for her work ethic, compassion, and mentorship. She touched the lives of countless colleagues and customers during her long career. Pam was involved with United Way of St. Landry Parish, Crime Stoppers of St. Landry Parish, and the Rotary Club of Opelousas. She adored Hallmark movies and cheering on the LSU Tigers.
Mrs. Landreneau was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, where she was a Parish Council Member, a Lector of the Holy Word, and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She delighted in her calling to distribute communion to the homebound of the church parish. She enjoyed being active in her community during her free time and became a full-time volunteer for the Washington Garden Club and St. Mary Altar Society of Immaculate Conception Church in retirement. A graduate of Washington High School, she holds an undergraduate degree in business education from UL Lafayette and graduated from the LSU Graduate School of Banking; she was also a Notary Public.
Though our hearts are aching, we find peace in knowing Pam is free from the effects of Bulbar Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Bulbar ALS) that took her from our lives. Her legacy of love, compassion, and integrity will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
Dwight and his girls want to thank all who helped take care of Pam, notably the “Aunt Brigade,” filled with the best siblings, siblings-in-law, and friends, Gloria Evans, Claudia Jones, Open Arms Home Care Caregivers (Chole, Dee, Rica & Priscilla), and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care. Without them, the family could not have given Pam the care she deserved in her final weeks and days. Additionally, the family thanks the work of the Gleason Foundation and the staff and doctors at the ALS Clinic of Ochsner and LSU New Orleans, who embraced our family and taught us much more than we wanted to know about ALS, but gave us the tools to let Pam live life to the fullest, even with her disease.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
