Opelousas - Paula Ortego Bienvenu, a devout Catholic, has passed away at the Calcutta House of Lafayette on Monday, September 4, 2023. She was born on October 3, 1951, in Ville Platte, Louisiana, to her loving parents Elvin and Ena Ortego. Paula's life was characterized by her incomparable ability to cook amazing meals and the loving joy she got from making friends. 

Beyond her professional achievements, Paula was known for her exceptional cooking skills, which delighted both family and friends. Her love for gathering loved ones around the table extended beyond her own family.  Paula embraced a hospitality that made everyone feel welcome. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Paula had diverse interests that brought joy and fulfillment to her life. She had an appreciation for music, especially old movies and enjoyed spending time outdoors. Her green thumb flourished as she tended to her garden, nurturing an array of vibrant plants and flowers.

Paula's warm personality was magnetic; she had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She possessed an effortless charm that endeared her to those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. Paula truly believed in the power of human connection and leaves behind cherished memories with countless friends.

The funeral services for Paula Ortego Bienvenu will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The visitation will take place on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at LaFond Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, Louisiana. Following the visitation, a Rosary Service will be prayed by Cecille Dupre from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas at 2:00 PM. A Rite of Committal and burial will take place at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, beginning at 3:00 PM.

Paula is survived by her son, Robert Bienvenu and his partner, Drew Lineback, and her daughter, Ashley Bienvenu Jarrell, along with her husband, Charles Jarrell II. She is also survived by her brothers Michael Ortego (Myra), Brad Ortego (Sharon), and Neil Ortego (Cathy). Her sisters Marty Ortego and Diana Wallet (Michael) also mourn her loss. Paula's memory lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Charlie Jarrell III, Bailey Jarrell, Natalie Jarrell, and Benjamin Jarrell.

In this time of profound loss, let us remember Paula Ortego Bienvenu for the immense love she shared with those around her. Her dedication to nursing, warm nature, and ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life made her an extraordinary soul. May she rest in eternal peace as we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be treasured.
